Master and Margarita

Class was very random. One of the chapters for today had a character turn into a vampire and there was a naked woman who was also a vampire trying to open the window to get into this room, luckily the cock crowed to signal dawn and the financial director was saved. The other chapter was about the gulags and prisons. So naturally we start talking about the vampires and how the description was like a horror film, and how the woman had red hair. I of course have to add in to the conversation which focused around 'firey tempers' that redheads were thought to have been conceived during menstruation, and therefore feared and thought to be evil.

There was also a lot of random discussion about hiccups and being sick.

Deadly. Just deadly.

R. has joined the class. He mumbles a lot and thinks he knows everything.

Vaguely related, agroup of random boys showed up at Russian House to watch a movie the other day. They didn't stay long - they apparently did not want to watch a documentary while their friends were at the pub.

I am taking a course on Master and Margarita by Mikhail Bulgakov. It is a sort of seminar on the novel in Russian, so we are expected to speak fairly well, and be able to read. Some rather interesting things have come out of misunderstandings.

-Someone decided that Berlioz was homeless, when really Berlioz was having a conversation with a poet who went by the pen name Homeless. He then realized he had no idea what happened.

-L. informed us that her birthday is in May.

-S. likes opera.

-I pointed out the many instances of supernatural phenomena and their significance as well as commented on the parallel conversations discussing the mortality of man as the reason for our inability to plan our lives, not to mention anything close to eternity, which should be left up to God or a greater being, due to his/her/its immortality.

I doubt though that it actually came out as eloquently as I imagined.
